Why Timber Flooring
Still deciding if timber floors are the way to go? Here are some fast facts for you to consider:
-
Wide Range
We have a wide range for you to choose from. Including oaks; blonde woods like Blackbutt and Tassie Oak; darker brown timbers like Spotted Gum and Brushbox; as well as red timbers like Jarrah.
Our range of engineered timber boards have the same look and feel as real hardwood floors, but are available at a fraction of the price.
-
Timeless Style
Timber flooring is timeless - it complements any design style and any interior. We have all seen how a new timber floor will add character to any space.
Each plank of wooden flooring has its own individual pattern of knots and grains, making it perfect for every style and interior.
-
Wears Well
It wears well over time, and can even look better with age! Some timbers can be damaged by high heels and furniture. If you need flooring for high-traffic areas, ask us for the best types to consider.
-
Easy to Maintain
Timber floors are relatively easy to maintain. They can be swept, vacuumed or mopped to keep them looking great. Timber does not highlight spills or imperfections like other flooring may.
Engineered Timber Flooring FAQs
What is engineered timber flooring?
Engineered timber combines a real timber veneer (usually 2–6 mm thick) glued onto a plywood core. You get the warmth and uniqueness of real wood with greater stability and easier installation than solid timber.
Can engineered timber be sanded and refinished?
Yes, it can, but it does depend on the veneer thickness. Usually it can be sanded and refinished once or twice. However, sanding removes any smoked or stained topcoat, revealing the timber’s natural colour. It’s a last-resort option, not routine maintenance.
Is engineered timber more stable than solid timber in Queensland’s climate?
Definitely. The plywood core is layered in alternating directions (north–south–east–west), resisting expansion and contraction from humidity. That makes it ideal for coastal Queensland homes.
Why choose engineered over solid timber?
Engineered boards are factory-finished in airtight environments with up to 16 protective coatings. This level of finishing is far more than the 2–3 coats typically applied on-site to solid timber. As such, they’re tougher, more sustainable (with five times less raw timber per board), and less prone to cupping or gapping.
How do I care for engineered timber?
Sweep or vacuum often, use felt pads under furniture, and keep blinds or tints on large windows to reduce UV oxidisation (the yellowing effect). A well-made engineered floor can outlast most solid timbers.
