We recommend a low, tight loop-pile made from solution-dyed nylon as the best choice for high-traffic areas. This is because it resists crushing, hides wear, and cleans up easily. It’s perfect for stairs and hallways.

How do different carpet fibres compare?

  • Polypropylene: cheapest and robust but less soft and fade-resistant.
  • Polyester: soft, good value, mainly cut-pile styles.
  • Nylon: the all-rounder as it’s durable, pet- and kid-friendly, easy to clean.
  • Wool: natural luxury: it’s hypoallergenic, breathable, beautifully soft, but needs gentler care.

How should I clean and maintain my carpet?

Synthetic carpets handle most household cleaners (even mild bleach in commercial grades). Wool needs delicate care and can be cleaned with warm diluted soapy water, low-pH cleaners, and a soft white towel only. Think of it like a fine wool jumper where gentle is best.
