Cork Flooring: Natural, Warm, and Soft
Soft underfoot, naturally insulating, and sustainably harvested. Cork flooring for Sunshine Coast homes.
Cork flooring is one of the oldest natural floor finishes and one of the most distinctive. Made from the bark of the cork oak, harvested without felling the tree, every plank or tile carries the soft, granulated texture that gives cork its unmistakable character. It is warm in winter, cool in summer, naturally insulating, surprisingly quiet underfoot, and one of the few genuinely renewable hard floor options on the market.
At Kawana Flooring we stock a curated selection of cork ranges to suit Sunshine Coast homes, from traditional glue-down tiles to modern click-lock floating planks. Visit our Warana showroom to feel the difference for yourself.

Why cork?
Cork is a flooring choice with real personality. Here are a few reasons it remains a favourite for homeowners who want something natural, comfortable, and quietly sustainable:
Soft underfoot. The cellular structure of cork acts like millions of tiny cushions, giving the floor a gentle springiness that is unique among hard floors. Easier on legs, backs, and dropped glassware.
Quiet and acoustically absorbent. Cork dampens footfall and reduces sound transfer between rooms, making it a strong choice for living areas, studies, and upper levels.
Naturally insulating. Cork holds warmth in winter and stays comfortable in summer, which suits the Sunshine Coast climate well. It pairs nicely with hydronic and electric underfloor heating systems too.
Sustainable by design. Cork bark regrows every nine years and the tree is never cut down. The cork oak forests of Portugal are
among the most biodiverse managed landscapes in Europe.
Hypoallergenic and low-VOC. Cork naturally resists mould, mildew, and dust mites, and the ranges we stock are certified for low VOC emissions. Good news for allergy-prone households.

Cork Floor FAQs
Is cork suitable for kitchens and high-traffic areas?
Yes, with the right product and installation. Sealed and properly finished cork stands up well to everyday spills and foot traffic in living areas, kitchens, and hallways. For wet areas like bathrooms or laundries, we generally recommend a fully waterproof option like hybrid or vinyl plank.
How does cork handle pets and kids?
Very well. Cork is soft, quiet, and forgiving on knees and paws. The pre-finished surface resists most everyday scuffs, though deep gouges from claws or dragged furniture can mark the surface. A protective rug under heavy or sliding furniture is a good idea.
Is cork sustainable?
About as sustainable as a hard floor gets. Cork bark is harvested from living trees that continue to grow and absorb carbon for decades. The cork industry supports the largest area of FSC-certified forest in the world, and most cork tiles and planks are also made with a high percentage of recycled cork content.
Will it cork flooring in direct sunlight?
Natural cork can lighten or warm in tone with prolonged direct sun exposure. The pre-finished coatings on the ranges we stock include UV protection, but in rooms with strong all-day sun we recommend window furnishings to even out the exposure.
How long does a cork floor last?
With proper care, a quality cork floor will last 20 to 30 years or more. The ranges we stock carry lifetime structural guarantees and 15-year residential warranties on the finish.
